The Government in England wants every school to be sustainable by 2020 (The national framework for sustainable schools), and schools all over the country are making changes to their policies, buildings and buying practices in order to comply with these demands. Waste, and the culture that encourages it, can be tackled through sustainable consumption and a philosophy of “reduce, reuse and recycle”. As well as creating cost savings, this approach supports the development of the local economy, markets for ethical goods and services and also provides an interesting focus for learning.
